Male tango last performances

-Male Tango, (IATI theatre) which was recognized with two HOLA (Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors) awards (Outstanding performance in musical theater: Walter Perez & Leonardo Sardella and Outstanding Musical production, IATI Theater) and Two Latin ACE Awards (Asociación de Cronistas de Espectáculos de NY) nominations (Best Director - Musical Theater: Walter Perez, and Best  Theater: IATI Theater)

 

-Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing - teaching and performing with renowned Argentine electronic tango band Tanghetto

 

-Capital Pride at Argentine Embassy in Washington D.C. - Walter and Leonardo were invited again this year to perform for Capital Pride at the Argentine Embassy.

 

-Montreal Queer Tango Festival - this year was our third teaching and performing at the festival

 

-Berlin Queer Tango Festival - this year was our fifth teaching and performing at the festival

 

-NY Fuerzafest Festival - In 2016, the Hispanic Federation launched FUERZAfest, the first LGBTQ+ Latino Arts Festival in the Northeast, which not only celebrates a vibrant  but addresses the critical issues impacting it. Walter and Leo continue to participate and perform at this unique 13-day festival. 

 

-NY QUEER TANGO Weekend - organizers/teachers/performers of the 4th annual festival which gathered local international tango artists in NYC in September 2018

  • Walter Perez was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

  • He was introduced to the Argentine Tango in 1993, and trained with many renowed Argentine Tango masters including: Pepito Avellaneda, Puppy Castelo and Graciela Gonzalez, Rodolfo Dinzel, Lorena Ermocida and Osvaldo Zotto.

  • He has appeared as a featured dancer in many Tango productions in Buesnos Aires, New York and around the world, on stage and on television.

  • In 2011 Walter formed the Malevaje Dance Company with Leonardo Sardella. As Malevaje, they have performed and taught in the United States, England, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Iceland, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Bolivia, and Argentina; participated in several International Queer Tango Festivals.

  • Walter co-founded the annual New York Queer Tango Weekend with Leonardo Sardella, currently the only Queer Tango Festival in the United States.

  • Together Walter and Leo created Atlantic Tango - a Tango community that meets at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical culture for weekly lessons and practicas. They also teach at Dardo Galletto Studios

  • Walter and Leo are highly regarded teachers and performers, known for their seamless exchanges of lead and follow, creativity and musicality.

  • Leonardo Sardella was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

 

  • He began studying Tango and other dance at the Conservatorio Nacional de Danza at the age of eight.

 

  • Leo went on to study with many Tango maestros including: Osvaldo Zotto, Claudio Gonzalez and Garciela Gonzalez.

  • Leo has been a leading or featured dancer in Tango shows presented in prestigious theaters in Buenos Aires and around the world.

  • In recent years, he has toured, taught and performed in the United States and Europe with Johana Copes, including Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Minneapolis, Vienna, St. Petersburg and Rome.

  • With Walter Perez, Leo co-founded Malevaje Dance Company, Atlantic Tango, The New York Queer Tango Weekend, and Friends of Argentine Tango.

  • Leo and Walter are highly regarded teachers and performers, known for their seamless exchanges of lead and follow, creativity and musicality.
